From Margaret and Kevin: Mel was my Manager when I worked for the Civil Service and I came to know him really well as a very caring person who had a very dry (but wicked) sense of humour! I know to my cost one Christmas when he pulled my name out of the hat to be the one to buy me a ‘secret Santa’ present, which I opened in front of our Director! Enough to say that moment will live in history to demonstrate his humour! He was a true gentleman and a good friend even to including Kevin, my husband, into our lunch dates since retirement - he was taken too soon.
