I met Mel at the Research Council in the 80’s and we remained friends over the following decades. He was always kind, generous, warm hearted (he saw the best in everyone) and a great listener, and then there was that magnificent sense of humour! We enjoyed so many lunches, dinners, concerts and a couple of memorable holidays. As true friends are, he was of huge support to me after the sudden death of my husband.
